About Lancaster Container, Inc.
Richard Pflumm founded Lancaster Container in 1976. He saw a local need for pail production, and our first customer was Armstrong. Since then we have grown to serve a much larger and broader customer base, supplying pails and containers to customers all over North America.
We primarily serve the paint, coatings and chemical industries.
In 1987, there were 39 competing pail plants in the United States. Today only two of those competitors remain. Lancaster Container survived and grew while so many others did not, because we react quickly to a changing industry.
In 1997, we purchased a second facility three miles from the main plant, adding 100,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space.
With the addition of this facility, we expanded our distribution capabilities with a five-stage covered dock area. We now stock and distribute truckloads of drums, plastic pails and paint cans. Together with our steel pail manufacturing, that makes Lancaster Container a full-service container center.
In March 2022, Richard's grandson Dylan Pflumm became Owner and CEO. Dylan joined Lancaster Container in 2010 and had been running the company since 2017, keeping it in the family and continuing to produce an American-made product.
In October 2024, Lancaster Container was purchased by Cleveland Steel Container Corporation (CSCC), one of North America's largest steel pail manufacturers. We operate independently from our Washington Boro, Pennsylvania facility and continue to serve the paint, coatings and chemical industries with the same American-made products, pricing and people our customers have always counted on. General Manager Trevor Hoffman and Office Manager Britney Grubb lead the Lancaster team day to day, ensuring the same responsive service and consistent quality that have defined Lancaster Container since 1976.
